Imagine you live in an area prone to wildfires. You’ve heard there are some fires nearby. The fire chief knocks on the door and says, “We have a model for how the fire spreads. It turns out the fire is moving faster than we thought toward your block. We strongly recommend you evacuate.”
I assume you would say, with a proper level of dismissive condescension, “A-ha! So your models are wrong! Wake me up when your fire models start predicting accurately, and we’ll talk then.”
Doesn’t sound like a good risk management plan. But you do you.
At any rate, climate change is no longer just a “model.” It’s happening in real time and costing communities, companies, and countries enormous sums of money.
