Thank you for your comments. I can’t respond to it all, but this question of what can be privatized is critical obviously. I only touch on it briefly in my piece. I do believe contracting out on many thing works, but there are also benefits of scale. I also challenge the general idea that government is by definition more inefficient. I’ve worked with multinationals for my whole career, and any big organization is inefficient. And it partly depends on the goals. e.g., Medicare is an incredibly efficient insurance program because it’s goal is not, like private insurance, to minimize insurance payments. But this is all good debate to have.
